Taylor Mitchell offers residential surveying services covering the area between Cambridge and Bishops Stortford.

Jobs will generally be completed personally by Justin Burns who, as well as being the founder and a Director, has lived in the area for several years.

Justin started his working life as an apprentice carpenter with John Laing Construction in North London qualifying in his early 20s. He started to take on private work at the weekends and within a couple of years had enough customers to set up on his own. As the years went by, Justin started to take on bigger projects, employing sub-contractors as necessary, until JMB Builders became a thriving general builder specialising is residential projects.

After an unfortunate incident with an electric plane, and wanting a new challenge, Justin signed up to do a part-time degree in Building Surveying at Westminster University in his early 30s. Completing his degree with honours, he took a trainee surveyor role with Jeremy Leaf Surveyors in Finchley and started on the path to becoming a Chartered Surveyor achieving full membership in 2002.

Having worked for Jeremy Leaf for a few years undertaking a mix of residential surveying work, that itch to break out on his own came back again and Peter Barry Limited, a London based surveying practice, was born. The practice consisted of  Justin and a part-time administrator in those early days but gradually expanded to a team of 20+ covering the whole of London over the next decade.

With a solid management structure in place at Peter Barry, Justin started to undertake work closer to where he now lives in North Essex with his wife and children under the Taylor Mitchell name at the start of 2022.
